Gall bladders are generally tiny. Tucked away under the liver in the right upper abdomen. Think kiwi fruit. But when they really play in place think more with regard to hand grenade. The job of your gall bladder may be to collect bile manufactured by the liver and release it when required to aid digestion. Sometimes however the gall or bile obtains thick and sets into stones - often 100s of tiny ones, or maybe fewer, but larger ones. They aren't supposed to be there - your system tries to expel them and can't - usually the result is strangely enough pain inside your left shoulder.

If a stone is forbidding the bile duct you may experience griping soreness, nausea or even vomiting perhaps, and certainly a great aversion to fatty foods - and a decidedly dodgy appearance. It's no wonder that in medieval times an excess of bile was felt to produce anger. Look in some sort of mirror (100 % daylight rather than under artificial light) and you will notice first of all a yellowish tinge on the whites of ones eyes. Gradually this jaundice will appear on the skin. Normally bile goes into the intestine and out of the body. When its passage is blocked the chemicals that define bile build up in the blood - that's what causes your jaundice. It is usually what causes the itching once in a while experienced.

The old manner of diagnosing was simply to consider the patient moaning of bloating or even colic. Fat, fair, fertile, forty. In the event the person fitted these kind of criteria i. e. was she heavy, female, fertile we. e. pre-menopausal, and about forty yrs . old? If so the diagnosis was very likely correct. Saying that I've known on the case in a fifteen year aged lad, although that's very, very unusual.

Nowadays diagnosis is normally by ultrasound. Sometimes an x-ray with dye is the choice.

Either way then must come treatment in certain form - surgical you aren't. Without it the illness will only become worse and could affect other organs. Treatment could be surgery - available or keyhole. Some practitioners recommend cranberry juice to aid expel tiny stones. A low fat diet allows you to relieve the fits of colic. Another treatment sometimes offered is lithotripter treatments i. e. the gall bladder is actually bombarded with shock waves which break up the stones so that they can pass on as smaller pieces into the intestine and available.

Why does the idea affect women a lot more than men? - the answer looks like it's hormonal - especially for the reason that condition can appear during pregnancy - it can be second only to appendicitis for a reason for surgery during pregnancy.

Stay away from gall bladder problems? It may not be possible, but maintaining a healthy weight and eating more fibre in addition to a low fat, low cholesterol diet means you are not as likely to run into problems. Some swear by avoiding dairy products. If you're a lady you could of course just never reach 40 - Being 39 forever might undertake it!
